| Antiguans boast of having 365 beaches,
one for each day of the year. Has anybody really counted them? It may be true, as with so many natural harbors and bays, the variety and number of beaches in Antigua is more than anybody can explore during a vacation. They are truly fabulous and all of them are public. St John’s is the capital and main harbor, where cruises anchor and tourists buy their souvenirs. Nearby Dickenson Bay is populated by hotels and shops, probably the busiest beach on the island. Jolly Harbor with its Jolly Beach is also a great spot for vacationers and sailors. English Harbor and Nelson’s Dockyard on the south coast have historical buildings, picture perfect spots and are witness to some of the most important sail boat competitions, such as Antigua Sailing Week. Even if you are not a fan of regattas, you will be blown away by the beauty and majesty of the sailboats. Beauty and variety continue on the east coast of Antigua, where Half Moon Bay is one of the most visited beaches for water sports, snorkeling and people watching. A very beautiful place with many choices (from whole families to honeymooners), great food and friendly people, Antigua is worth visiting more than once. Just load your camera with the largest memory card you can buy. You will need it! |
